Mt. Olympos 2016
Overview
In 2016 we were approached by the the CEO of Dynafit to plan an event with the primary purpose of advertising the new innovative line of ski mountaineering equipment on the mountains of the gods. He had a very specific vision in mind, wanting the event to be rooted in history and culture, while having an adventure core and strong elements of Greek hospitality. A raw and original event, capable of highlighting the performance of the new products as well as the lifestyle side of the brand, for people looking for more of an experience than a simple piece of equipment.
Goals
Press event organization for 15 journalists + attendants | 2-day plan
• Tourist services: transportation, accommodation and meals
• Culture promotion services: promotion of Greece as a destination for winter adventures
• Adventure planning: scheduling & route planning with alternative plans due to unexpected weather conditions
• Press Strategy: lifestyle & adventure PR strategy for increased journalists’ engagement
Challenges
The Greek mountains can have an unexpected turn in the winter months. Within a few hours the weather can change from sunshine with high temperatures to blizzards and ice. Along with the weather, the layering of the snow is also affected, with the possibility of increased avalance risk, which would result to the conditions being prohibitive for such events. Good planning, combined with flexibility and adaptability were the key features of this event and the reasons for its success.
"Safety is always our priority!" says Yannis Kotileas, CEO & Founder of WayOut Adventures.
We delivered
The event was an adventure! The dry winter forced us to follow plan B, leave Olympus behind and move west to Samarina. "The snow god" helped and in the morning we were "buried in the snow". So, we moved towards the ski center of Vasilitsa for the first contact with the equipment. At noon we arrived at the V1850 shelter where our guests had time to exchange ideas, aspirations and stories and bond with the Dynafit team from around the world.
The next day the severe weather subsided and we found ourselves climbing through the frozen rombolas to the peak of Mosia at 2600m, ending up having one of the most beautiful descents in a constantly changing terrain. A traditional Greek feast with music and food was a must after our successful two-day adventure. The visitors were delighted with the experience of the event, our Greek mountain myths enchanted them while they were surprised to discover how much Greece has to offer to the world of skiing.
The results of the advertising campaign and the enthusiasm of the guests made the Dynafit CEO's vision come true, giving the event the mentality he intended, while leaving the press team with the best impressions.
