Overview
The Freeride Clinics is an educational program, certified by the Freeride World Tour Academy, which is implemented on Mt Helmos. Its main objective is to provide advanced level training for adults in off-piste special skiing conditions, and the general knowledge that surrounds the safe conduct of the freeride activity.
Highlights
Through a 14-hour teaching program, the participants will come into contact with various conditions/qualities of snow and terrain, gaining the necessary experience for a safe mountain approach.
The training program, divided into two days (D1 & D2), covers a wide range of theoretical knowledge and practical training, in matters related to the implementation of the Freeride activity. Yiannis Kotileas, a professional and pioneer in the field, with long-term experience and a strong scientific background is in charge of the educational program.
Participation Conditions
All skiers who are able to descend a red piste and complete continuous and controlled turns are eligible to participate. The program is aimed at everyone who wants to perfect their technique and safely enter the world of Freeride Skiing.
Itinerary
Freeride Clinics are divided into two independent days, based on the training axes.
28-01-2023 / Day 1 / Snow Safety:
- Conditions reading and risk assessment
- Snow gap
- Demonstration and use of Search & Rescue devices and tools
- Practice search and rescue (SR Management)
- Event simulation.
29-01-2023 / Day 2 / Freeriding Skills:
- Completion of on-piste skiing techniques
- Skiing practice in special conditions
- Learning basic techniques off the track
- Control and evaluation of the field.
General
Freeride Clinics will be held on Mt Helmos, while the exact dates will be announced soon.
Pricing includes:
- Organization and implementation of the program
- Instructor fees
- Information on safety issues related to movement on the mountain
- Provision and familiarization with avalanche search and rescue equipment (transceiver, shovel, rod)
- Short theoretical lectures on skiing safety, conditions reading and avoiding danger.
- VAT 24%
For specialized equipment hire, ask the training program managers for advice and they will be happy to direct you.
Additionally, upon request, we could make arrangements for your accommodation.
